Kathak dance

Kathak is one of the classical dance forms of India (originally from North India). It is a narrative dance form (in sanskrit „kathak“ means „story“ and „to make“) characterized by fast footwork (tatkar), spins (chakkar) and innovative use of bhav in abhinaya (enactment of a mood or an episode trough the use of facial expression). It has today a form that has been influenced at various times in the past by mythological narratives by kathakas, temple dances, and Persian influence of the Mughal courts in the 16th century onwards; and these elements are readily discernible.

Thanks to her classical Indian dance studies, Fauzia even feels at home with other Indian dance forms like folk dances, bhangra, contemporary Indian dance and Bollywood.
